Professor Ed Byrne AO, Vice-Chancellor & President of Monash University, is a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Tasmania. In the lecture, he will talk about advances in neuroscience and how neurology is evolving as a discipline. He proposes to cover the development and increased understanding of the brain and of brain diseases including those associated with ageing, the great advances currently going on around the world and he will conclude by taking this into a health and hospital setting.

Emeritus Professor Arthur Cobbold AM OBE died in December 2009 after a distinguished career in medical education. Professor Cobbold had been recruited from the UK in 1964 as Foundation Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology in the new Tasmanian School of Medicine. He played a pivotal role in the School’s development and success, serving as Dean of the School for a record 13 years. |
