Tasmanian Regional Arts 2012 Touring Program presents:
A photographic exhibition featuring the finalists in the 2011 Extreme Environment Photographic Competition
Antarctic Tasmania, Science and Research Development, part of the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts held a photographic award exhibition in 2011 celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Antarctic landscape and the scientists who work there.
This exhibition is part of the 2011-2012 Antarctic Centennial Year with many events initiated to mark this milestone in the science calendar.
As an international event, the photographic award attracted entries from across the world, by both amateur and professional photographers, with these touring entries from seven nationalities. Images feature icons of the polar regions with boats, penguins, ice and the dramatic southern lights as well as the intrusions of man.
The touring exhibition includes finalists and winners in the competition with the intense blueness of "Polar Night" by L Dybvik from Norway winning the $5000 Trafalgar prize. The Wayne Papps Memorial Prize was awarded to R Kilpatrick for his image "Sunrise - RV Aurora Australis" whilst the People's Choice went to J Holdko for "Blue Berg".
