The Menzies Research Institute Tasmania in partnership with the Australian Academy of Science, Rudi Lemberg Travel Fellowship, is delighted to present a public lecture by:
Professor Jones is a pioneer in the rapidly advancing field of cancer epigenetics and will present the talk: “How the exploding science of epigenetics will transform our understanding of health and disease and Australia's participation in it.”
Professor Jones is Distinguished Professor of Urology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, USA. He is a pioneer in the rapidly advancing field of epigenetics, and is internationally renowned for his discoveries of the basic mechanisms of epigenetics and the role they play in cancer development. These discoveries include the development of the drug 5-azacytidine which targets the epigenetic code and is now used to treat myelodysplastic syndrome and prevent it from developing into leukaemia.
Light refreshments will be available from 5:10pm
