His early research explored the role of lipids and insulin in relation to alcohol consumption, smoking, obesity, menopause and Alzheimer’s disease. His recent research, which was funded by the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust, identified links between obesity, the metabolic syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease. He recently reported the effectiveness of the surgical insertion of a shunt in the treatment of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, a treatable form of dementia and is currently looking at its prevalence and developing criteria to diagnose it. His research has been presented at national and international conferences and has been published in international journals.
