Alternative Technology Association Energy Policy Forum

Summary

Energy Policy – where do the parties stand?

Start Date

11th Jun 2013 6:00pm

Venue

Lecture Theatre 5, Sir Raymond Ferrall Centre

Our society is dependent upon abundant sources of energy – liquid fuels, gas and electricity – for its continued prosperity. However, energy policy is a controversial area: from imposing a cost on greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generators, through the role able to be played by renewables, to Australia’s petroleum fuel security, questions and arguments abound.

This forum is designed to allow you to question the candidates about their party’s energy policies.

Who will be speaking?
Candidates for the three main parties will briefly describe their party’s energy policy, then answer your questions. The speakers will be:
Labor Party: Mr Geoff Lyons MHR, Member for Bass
Greens Party: Senator Peter Whish-Wilson
Liberal Party: Mr Andrew Nikolic, endorsed candidate for Bass.

Will this be a debate?
No. We don’t want to hear the candidates arguing amongst themselves, we want them to answer your questions. Each candidate will have their own timeslot to speak and answer your questions.

What will the format be?
6 pm to 6:30 pm Mr Geoff Lyons MHR on the Labor Party’s energy policy. Most of this time will be devoted to answering your questions.
6:30 pm to 7 pm Senator Peter Whish-Wilson on the Greens Party’s energy policy. Most of this time will be devoted to answering your questions.
7 pm to 7:30 pm Mr Andrew Nikolic on the Liberal Party’s energy policy. Most of this time will be devoted to answering your questions.
