About Helene Chung

Helene Chung, a former ABC Beijing correspondent, was the first non-white reporter on Australian TV and the first female posted abroad by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. A fourth-generation Chinese Tasmanian, she is the author of Shouting from ChinaGentle John My Love My LossLazy Man in China and Ching Chong China Girl.

She has reported from Hong Kong, China, London and Cairo and freelanced for the BBC, CBS, NPR and Hong Kong radio. Born in Hobart, Helene attended St Mary's College and graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Master of Arts in history.
