Bridget Nicholson
So excited to be in Tasmania as an opportunity to immerse myself in what it is that makes places ‘sing’. I have managed to develop projects that require me to travel around Australia and interact with people and places because I am desperate to know; what makes people to belong to places, are the people part of the place, or the place part of the people, what happens when you move, migrate, belong to another and then another and then another place. Here and now I am using print making as a means of sifting through and documenting the images that stick in my head as being both Launceston (Tamar) specific and Tasmanian in general. The research is based on both historic and field work.

Ron Malor
Ron Malor is in the first year of his MFA candidacy. In his Honour’s year he studied medieval Russian Orthodox icons and their sympathetic abstraction. In the current project he is continuing this work although concentrating predominantly on the backgrounds (built and natural) of the icons. The work also includes studies of the Romanian 19th Century glass icons from the UTas Tyler collection. This presentation introduces the two icon types, brief histories, and the problems incurred with the abstraction process in practice and concept.
